How many weeks until the first egg. ISA brown, Hy-Line etc

Hi everyone,

I had half a dozen of this type of chook wind up at my place. conf665

They were 6 weeks old. They are now 15 weeks and one of them has produced her first two eggs. [smilie=a_holycrap.gif]

That sounds really young to me. I haven't had any experience with this type of chook. What has everyone else found the average laying age is?

Did someone leave them on your door step for adoption with a note saying they were 6 weeks old, and PLEASE LOOK AFTER MY CHOOKIES? They may have been older than originally stated conf665

I have heard that Isa's can be as young as 18 weeks old when they can start to lay, the average is 24 weeks old for POL, just remember that they lay up to 320 eggs per in their first year of laying, then their poor bodies get tired so they might need a bit of extra calcium to keep them in good condition.

Both these ‘breeds’ are hybrid bred to lay eggs they can start as early as 18 to 20 weeks sometimes younger – especially if fed a bit too much protein while they are growing
Just make sure they have a well balanced layer diet

Hmm. No PP It was me or death so I took 'em and they were definitely only 6 weeks old.

They were still on chick grower soozorps because of their age, so they should have been getting just what they needed. Now they are on layer pellets. [smilie=a_holycrap.gif]

My ISA brown started laying at 23 weeks. Each girls has been laying 1 egg everyday since they started, haven't missed a single lay in 3months.

Some of ours start at 17 weeks most 19 weeks which here on the farm we consider normal but we do feed high protein for ours as they are a commercial business so we need them on the lay asap
