hi PEACOCKSAUSTRALIA can you breed a pied lavender with a pied pearl to get white from them or is the pearl too dominant.

Hi toppoultry, the same gene combination (pp) would need to be present in any pied breeding combination when attempting to produce (ww) but you are correct the Pearl gene is dominant, this means you would breed a greater percentage of pearl pied.

Hi Peacocks Australia is there less chance of geting white if you breed lavender pied with pearl pied or is it better to breed togrther two lavender pieds together

Hi toppoultry, yes your % would be reduced significantly. Producing Whites is a very long term breeding program and you need to choose the birds with the highest proportions of pied markings (i.e reverse pied if possible) Reverse pied should be your first breeding goal when you have achieved this with stable results then you should focus on white by line breeding.

HI Peacocks Australia what is Reverse pied guinea fowl look like and you think i should try to breed them as my first breeding goal. Can you send a pic to me of one by email.

Hi Peacocks Australia what colors/gene combination do you need to breed Reverse pied guinea fowl and is it easy to breed like pearl and is it where you just breed two pieds together to get more pieds.

a reverse pied is a higher percentage of pied markings with less of the normal colouring e.g 68% white and 32% normal markings

Hi toppoultry, a true reverse pied is a bird that is both Genotype & Phenotype (PP) Most pieds are Genotype & Phenotype (PW) this includes some reverse pieds (low % markings). To breed a reverse pied that is Genotype & Phenotype (PP) is almost as difficult as producing (WW) this is were line breeding is critical but not guarenteed. The reason it is difficult and long term is the gene (P) is dominant over (W) and you must breed-out the (P) gene. For example we have friends in the U.S.A who have Phenotype reverse pied Indian blue Peafowl both the Peacock & Peahen are visually reverse pied (55%) but the pair only breed normal pieds. This is because one or both are Genotype (PW) and therefore are not true reverse pied. If you have a reverse pied that is 70+ % pied markings then it would be very likely the bird is Genotype & Phenotype (PP)
