Three peafowl for sale.

Hi everyone. We are in NE vic and we have

1 four month old pied male at $60
1 sixteen month pied male at $70
1 full tail 4 year old male at $90

We would consider selling the full tail male with a female as they always hang around together. She has bred for two years but we don't know how old. We assume she is only four as she was very small when we bought her at auction. We would want $120 for her if she is sold with the male, but we won't sell her by herself. Cheers, Pam

hi where in NE vic are u? im interested in the 4 month old.... im finding alot are being sold in QLD but not many in vic...thanks

Hi Simone. That post is nearly one year old. We have some young males for sale, 4 months old. There are two people ahead of you, one guy coming tomorrow who wants a pied female and possibly a male. Another guy from down your way has been trying to get through and there is something really wrong with his phone. Every time he rings it screams!!! I am pretty sure he wants a pair but have not been able to talk at length to him but I couldn't penalise him for that. So he will have second go. We do have a few more males left after that. They are the smaller ones, still coming up 4 months and will be Indian Blue or Split pied. We kept last year's smallest split pied male and he has grown into a beautiful big boy, so it doesn't seem to make much difference. One of the smaller ones is so full of himself that he has been mating with the other young ones and displaying to all and sundry, including the sparrows outside the pen!! Just practising we presume but a good sign for the future. You do know you must lock them up when you get them in a roofed pen, otherwise they will fly off. You would also need to get two as one would get terribly lonely and fly off. As the males take three years to breed we advise to start with two young males and get accustomed to keeping them first. Our females breed successfully at 1 sometimes but usually 2, so you can pick up females later. You may know all about them and I am teaching my grandmother etc! We are at the foot of Mt Buller. hey sorry about that i relised like the day after when i re-read it :oops:

yes i do understand that i just prefered to get younger ones that could get used to socializing with my menagerie and humans.
i would possibly be still interested. they would be actually studied as well as pets as i am in year tweleve and currently searching for a agricultural project that would increase my knowledge, and peacocks are amazing interesting creatures. i have had experince with Peacocks so they wouldn't go to place without love as my neighbours have owned a couple.
i would probably have to get back to you on getting a male at the moment because i need to arrange transport to NE vic

Hi Simone. You do need to get two as they are very sociable and one would be just so lonely. You need a roofed pen as I said and we won't sell to anyone unless they have a good sized high roofed pen. If you don't keep them in they will leave and get taken by predators. You also need a minimum of 5 acres, much more preferably, as if you free range them they will go to your neighbours. Bone up by reading all this website has to offer. Get back to me if you are still interested. Do you go to school at Foster??? I used to work at the Prom in school hols a very long time ago!!! Yeah i planned on getting another one as well i was just wondering, plus i didnt particularlly want 2 males. And 5 acres is not a problem i live on a dairy farm and school at Leongatha. i currently have a very large enclosed area that is spare and i also have chooks and geese.

You need to get two at once as they need the company. The females breed sometimes successfully at one year. But unless you can come by a mature male they will only lay infertile eggs. The males mature at 3. So it is best to get two young males and let them grow and adapt to your property then acquire your females in their second or even third year. The females will bond more quickly to your place when you have some boys already there. If you can come by mature males and females you are lucky but generally you have to pay a lot and also they will take 6 months to bond to your property before you let them out. Breeding is a whole big issue. It is when you lose the hens and the chicks so you will need to do a lot of research before you start. It is a pretty steep learning curve even keeping the boys and the breeding is a lot more care still. We give a lot of help with that even if you don't buy from us. We like you to come to our place and see where they breed and look at ideas for constructing temporary cubicles that are foxproof. Have a think anyway and work out how you want to proceed. It is a lot of money to spend to have them taken by predators or fly away, not to mention the sadness of the bird meeting a grisly end.
