Wonderful experimental reseacher Henny Penny - if one does not research/experiment - one does NOT discover - so :-D congratulations.

I will add -

All of us that have used Moxidectin [I use it as brand named Cydectin {oil based one}] have wondered abt the head lice issue - dont worry Henny Penny :-D it doesnt harm us humans = I accidentally got some on me last time I was drenching the chooks/cattle/dog - I am assuming tho that if I had of had worms that they would have run away screaming!
You do need to make sure you dose correctly of course - follow the intructions for the amount per Kg - weigh yr birds and dose accordingly - I weigh our birds 4 times a year on average [so I include that in keeping track of their health] and dose if they need it at that time.
You can give orally as well I have heard but I dont as I am not sure if this is a water based version - I imagine it would work faster being internal.
You can safely use it on dogs as we accidentally discovered some years ago also ensuring the correct dosage - havent got horses so cant comment on them [ just make sure you test with a very small amount first = :o one of my dogs was 'sensitive' to the active ingredient  and required vet attention - but then she was allergic to ants - yeah I know BLOOMING ANTS!!!!!!! She is gone from extremely old age now but our current dogs are fine with the Cydectin.

It is hard for me to believe, but it looks like I have results on two Roos already. One boy has foot feathering, and keeping up with oiling and dusting for him alone has been a chore, plus worming of course. Another boy has had a tatty looking crest for a few weeks.

Since its application a few days ago, the foot feathering does not look as tatty, and the skin looks healthier around his feet, (not thtat it was bad). The other fellow's crest looks like it is fuller 'already' :o   - OMG - How good is that? I did not expect results so quickly, but they are hardly noticeable, hubby said he did not see any change, but I am with the birds more than him. Cheering :-D :-D :-D

Yer it's good stuff that's for sure. I also notice the benefits very quickly after application. I did however notice that reapplying is generally required if you have bad stick flea probs.

I've also noticed a bird doesn't seem to o.d with it either. A few weeks ago my daughter and i did Larry our big sussex rooster. I held him while Mikaela put the drops on. Well Larry played up and lil miss got a fright and squeezed the whole 5mls onto the back of Larry's head

Next morning i went down to the shed expecting to find a crook or dead roo.....but nup, no probs whatsover and he's still fighting fit :-D so don't worry if ya give the bird a little too much ;)

Thats good to know, I thought I gave an extra drop on two birds last week, but they are still with me, and so too are the dogs.

Thanks D for the opportunity to research your question and find out more about this great time saving product, :-D .

The young birds I dosed last week dont seem to have had any reaction other that a good outcome. They were around six weeks old. I did the neck thing not the water. cheers

I forgot to put in my post = scientific research [yeah they actually did research!!] has shown that you can safely 'overdose' - they went to 1,000 times the correct dose with no obvious ill effect.
personally I would NOT recommend putting THAT much on any chook/dog etc - but for the sake of scientific research they do obviously.

I had a small bottle of ivermectim from the vet which I have used 3/4 of & I set myself the task of cleaning the chook shed this weekend so I thought I would get in & spot-on the chooks first. I have treated a couple twice & there is still creepy crawlys I can see, I'm thinking it might be out of date :-?

I have just read all the posts so far & went out to the shed & got the stuff I bought for the cows. I still had the receipt in the box from 6-8-07 $71.50. It's Coopers Paramax, active constituent:5g/L ivermectim, nill withholding for milk.

Are all of these treatments worked on the same amount of g/L ratio or are there stronger & weaker versions. Would it still be 5 drops roo & scaled down from there?

I asked a similar question and it was brushed aside, so I can't answer that one.

Your brand, my brand and at least one other person's brand all have 5g/L, so perhaps that it pretty much standard. Therefore, it is likely we're all on the same page.

I finally got around to doing my chooks with the Ivomec on Thursday (or might have been Wednesday as the days fly by round here).

Taking into account what I knew by then about overdosing not being an issue, I aimed for at least 3 drops each.

I tried to get the drops onto their skin on the back of their necks. A couple I allowed a drop or two to spread over their combs as well.

I'm not concerned about any withholding period for eating the eggs. The amount in any egg is likely to be less than what I absorbed through my skin doing the dosing.

I also put several drops on the back of the neck of my daughter's cat.

Thanks for that, how did the cat go? If 5g is about normal thats good I'll go ahead & use it, like I said the other stuff must be way out of date, that might be why the vet was so keen to help (not my usual vet).

I usually buy frontline or advantage for my Belgian Shepherds but I have heard some stories about their metabolism & some dogs have finished up in the vets but I'm yet to find 1 of the people that own 1. As far as the chooks go I think it's the best thing, easier than dipping or dusting.

Hi Lou, i actually think frontline and advantage are starting to get weaker.....either that or the fleas are starting to build up resistence to it. Our mini foxie will have fleas even as early as a week after application of advantage/frontline.

I'm stickin with the ivomectin for everything now. :-D
