Another incubator question - please help!

My new incubator (Multiquip) has instructions saying that temp should be 99.7 degrees fahrenheit, with humidity 83-85%. I've got it close, but am still fiddling with it to get it right before I put any eggs in. How exact does this have to be??? I assume that opening the door to refill the water tray and wet bulb thermometer will affect the temperature and humidity slightly, so how do you know when you've got it right?

I have only ever hatched eggs under hens before, but got too impatient waiting for one to get broody this time round!

Debbieo4914, the Temp & Humidity is very important but more so that the Temp does not go over 103oF You can have and will have some fluctuation in both Temp & Humidity (opening the Incubator ect..) and out side temperature. The ideal outside temp is 24oC so a stable room temp is a major factor. You have got the right Temp & Humidity combination at the figures above, don't worry about opening the door but, only do this when you absolutely need and be as quick as possible.

Tips:
Run the Incubator at least 24 prior to setting eggs (this will make sure you have the Temp set correctly)
Don't open the incubator in the first 24 hours (once you have set the eggs)
Only open the Incubator when it is absolutely necessary.
Keep the room temperature stable, (An Incubator in a STD tin shed will not work)
Do not alter the setting (Temp) once you have set the eggs.

Thanks PA. I've got the incubator inside our house - my husband is happy that at least it is not in our bedroom! Hopefully the temp will be fairly stable inside the house - 24oC is about my ideal temperature too!

Good luck with your eggs Debbie, yes 24 is a nice temperature, don't like the heat.

The only thing I can add to what PA et al have advised is how do you get a partner that will let you have the incubators in the house, which is a great temp. :!:
