Its a pity you can't see the photo's rosemarie ,I wonder why ?
It's good to see some more coronations , as I am only new to Coronation breeding , But have had good success with mine so far both at shows and breeding , I think the Thing all "Coronation" breeders need to be aware of is keeping them true to type , I am really concsious of the standards when I look at a Coronation , and because I keep lights I am always very critical ,
As Sussex breeders , we need to make sure they still comply with the standard especially in size and type ,but also with the lacing , Some of the Coronations I have seen at recent shows have been Smaller than a light with very little front , another big fault I have noticed is in the lacing , where the lacing is starting to fade ,where they dont have the distinct white border required , I am using a Cockerel with ticking in the saddlehackles ,to try to improve the lacing in the neckhackles and still maintain the beautiful lavender colour The coronations and believe , it can be improved through a strict breeding program .

Ian, do you think to improve on the lacing on coronations one could use a light sussex roo over coronation hen to improve the lacing. When one wants to iprove on the colour in markings on cuckoo pekins we would cross with black same with lavender pekins to improve colour we would cross with black.?????

I would be interested to find out if this could be done successfully.

My answer is no

I think it would be better to use a Strong marked Coronation Male , with the Ticking I am referring to , Not real good in the showpen , but Highly desirable in the breeding pen Especially if want to improve the lacing without ruining the Beautiful Lavender , colouring .
But I would like to here other opinions, that is definately my answer though

But it is a very ,Good question and , When you see the male I have kept to breed from you'll see why , he won't win any shows but his offspring should be very good .
I hope this helps anyone keen to improve Coronation line .

I agree with Ian.I also have coronations and the first year after I bought a trio I introduced my best Lights into them.Not to improve colour but to improve type and vigour.This I did.They are now almost as good in type as my lights(particularly the females) but the lacing in the hackle is definately a problem.I only have a few and I mated all my hens(4) with a good type cockeral.I am not sure what the colour will be like though as the lacing in the hackle is very poor on both sides.Time will tell.But I believe that type is very important in sussex and so many people(including judges) get so wound up on correct markings, particularly in the hackle, that they forget about type.Type and size are should be worth 45 points and colour 20. :-?
