I still have to contact Ian Pollerd and the club, but as in 2007, I am proposing to put a large cash prize for Best Of Breed/Champion Sicilian Buttercup at the Mediterranean Club Show 2009.

So with some 8 months notice, lets see if we can put a decent effort on the bench this year. With several breeders. I will post an amount once I have been able to discuss with the club.

That is wonderful byhook, you put your money where you mouth is and I hope you get a big turnout.

I've tried this twice before with a lesser prize and did not succeed to pull anything out of the blue. Now I know there are at least seven others working on their own projects with these so what is needed is just the right incentive for them to step up to the plate if they think they have some fowl up to standard or close to it. I'd say there will probably as yet be none that will precisely meet the standard. Several reasons including, early on in their development plus I for one, am never going to breed them with a red lobe.

I'll finish and hope to get some other constructive comment from potential participants, that from the breeding season pretty much concluded, I am fortunate to have a pair of the best buttercups I have had.

So what happened to the ones stripped of me 2006-07? Taking those didn't help the breed go forward any further. It would actually surprise me if they even knew what a buttercup comb is supposed to look like, not nearly like. But precisely. Interested to see if any of those two lines get a seat on the bench.

A male in full flight during mating season:

A male of around 3 years, in mault where the comb is obvious in its shrunken shape.

A young cockeral of around 6 weeks showing all the signs he is same as above.

A young pullet yet to fully flower, but pressed to her head, exactly the same pattern.

i love telling everybody , how well your birds are going,

gives the knockers something to think about, :lol:

i would love to know what a certain so called breeder , or as i call him a collector of other peoples birds , from way down south thinks
