I saw this and decided to add my experience with so called split to cinnamon. I purchased off the internet and paid to have them sent all the way over here so called split cinnamon guinea fowls in both males and females and was told to breed them together and I would breed some cinnamons well 2 years latter and 69 chicks latter and no cinnamons have come they are all grey and lavender. I have asked a few good breeders about why and they have all told me there is no such thing and a split to cinnamon female and unless I get a cinnamon female or a silver female I will never breed them. So I have ordered 2 cinnamon females and will then hopefully breed some. So my advice to people is beware of these claims I think some are just out for the money.

Hi GuineasofPerth,
When you purchase your split birds did you find out the background on the way this breeder bred your spit birds. Were they produced from a mix coloured flock of Guineas that produced the odd “Cinnamon” bird or Did they produce your birds in a controlled environment, So that they new for sure the parentage of your birds. Did your split birds come directly out of a Cinnamon father or a Cinnamon mother????

Sorry for all the question,,, But it may help us,,, to give you better advise on WHY you have not produced a “Cinnamon”....

I hope you haven’t been taken for a ride,,,When buying split birds it is always a gamble... Unless the breeder can 100% guarantee the parentage. And the birds are bred in a controlled environment and not in a mix coloured flock....

Please keep us up todate when you breed your new “Cinnamon” females with your possible split males....

Welcome Guineas of Perth, yes good advice to beware of unfounded claims and money grabbers, did you read my post above if not here it is.

try 1 in 100 or 1 in 1000 or 1 in 100000 or 1 in 10000000 if they were NOT sexed linked and WERE recessive as you hypothesize then I should have lots and lots on cinnamons running around by now as I have dozens of defiant split cocks and I would have SPLIT HENS under your hypothesis which I don't of course.

Here we are, going around in circles again.

You are trying to make something fit your hypothesis and no matter how many ways you try the facts are the facts in 2011 and every year previous cinnamon guinea fowl have and are sexed linked but if you want to believe otherwise that is your problem As I have written previously IF there is ever a comprehensive study carried out by a geneticist that 100% proves in writing otherwise then they will always be sexed linked.

I think this has been debated enough with no proof offered or given just a hypothesis.
